I ran across an interesting, and humorous, discussion titled Redefining the dictionary given by a fabulously dressed Erin McKean at TED last year. Worth a watch when you have a spare 16 minutes.

Fantastic stuff. And the linked Dennett memetics talk is pretty great too.

Indeed it was! I just finished Tipping Point this evening (highly recommended) and I wonder if the meme survival is dependent on some of the variables mentioned therein. To perpetuate itself a meme must, almost by definition, be Sticky although Stickiness alone wouldn’t help it — it would still require the work of Connectors and Salesmen to keep it spreading. Actually, that might not even be true if we consider the meme of Freedom: I’m sure at some point some repressed individual “caught” that meme from a book without the direct interaction of people. Although you can’t get from a book to a revolution without some Connectors, Salesmen, and Mavens :)
Brain overload – lots to process!
